
The Monroe Health Department is committed to providing professional service to our community to protect the environment, and improve the quality of life through health education, regulation, community partnerships, and support of public health initiatives.
Primary Programs and Services
-Environmental Health:
- Foster a healthful environment and prevent illness by monitoring, investigating complaints of health hazards, educating the public and enforcing the Connecticut Public Health Code, relevant State regulations and local Ordinances. Conduct inspections of establishments such as restaurants, salons, public pools, day cares and temporary food events. Monitor lake water quality and review reports. Review plans for and supervise installation of subsurface sewage disposal systems. Approve permits for private wells and work with government agencies on water quality matters.
-Community Health:
- Promotion of health and well-being by educating, and reinforcing public health promotion messages and initiatives. Monitor and track disease reporting. Offer child vaccines through CT Vaccine for Children program for free or low cost. Act as a resource for various topics such as lead poisoning, fall prevention, vector-borne disease, asthma, opioid overdose education.
-Emergency Preparedness:
- Collaborate with our DEMHS Region 1, local agencies and partners to develop functional plans to prepare for and respond to urgent situations such as infectious disease outbreaks, natural disaster, extreme weather or other public health emergencies.
